Civil War, 1861-1865

Rodney Edmands (1817-1909) and his son Consider Edmands (1843-1862) [not our direct ancestors, they were the grandson and great-grandson, respectively, of John Edmands, 1757-1846, the nephew and great nephew, respectively, of Lott Edmands, 1791-1877, who are our direct ancestors] fought in the Battle of Second Bull Run (Second Manassas) in 1862, where Rodney was wounded and Consider was killed. Rodney continued fighting off and on until the end of the war. You can see more details on these men at Descendants of William Edmands.

Lorenzo Mansfield (1828-1915) [not our direct ancestor, he was the son of Ephraim Mansfield, 1790-1841, the brother of Ephraim Sylvester Edmands, 1825-1910, who are our direct ancestors] served as Private in the 40th Regiment of the Massachusetts Volunteers from 1862 through 1865.

In addition, Allan's first cousins, the brothers Nathaniel Melvin "Nat" Edmands I (1915-1992), Wilfred S. Edmands (1917-1944), Milton A. "Mit" Edmands (1920-1986), and Nelson Wilfred "Sonny" Edmands II (b. 1922) [not our direct ancestors, they are all sons of Nelson Wilfred Edmands I, 1875-1950, grandsons of Artemas Seymour Edmands, 1837-1920] fought in the war. Sonny, in particular, like Allan, was involved in a lot of action, and you can see his story.
