Age 81: Active locally in fair weather with DAR, Legion Auxiliary, Bible class, Young in Heart, sewing group, Kings Daughters, other groups, and friends. Suffered diabetes, indigestion (diarrhea), sciatic leg pain, neuritis, neuralgia, bursitis in shoulder, hypertension, eczema, hearing difficulties, dizzy spells, depression, worrying. Social Security increased from $69.60 to $75.70 per month. Paid $325 for the blacktopping of the driveway. Visited niece Eleanor Ramsdell Tucker and family in Baldwinville, MA. Niece Virginia Ramsdell O'Donnell and husband Paul visited from Peekskill, NY; niece Minerva Ramsdell Russell and husband John visited from South Dartmouth, MA. Great-granddaughter Mary Christine Barrett, daughter of granddaughter Mary Christine "Chris" Edmands Barrett and her husband, Edwin Raymond Barrett III, born (as part of Generation X) in Seattle, King County, Washington. Granddaughter Anna Jane "Janna" (Edmands) Hawes Yarnot, 24, her husband, Richard James Yarnot, 26, and their daughters, Veronica Jane Yarnot, 2, and Mary Monica Yarnot, 1, visited on their way to England to live. Great-grandson Theodore Francis Watts V, son of granddaughter Ernestine "Tina" J. Edmands Watts, and her "husband" Theodore Francis Watts IV, born (as part of Generation X) (the father abandoned Tina during her pregnancy). Friend Madeleine Hewes died at the age of 89, and neighbor Eva Poland died at the age of 74. 1968

Visited niece Minerva Ramsdell Russell and her husband John in South Dartmouth, MA; visited niece Eleanor Ramsdell Tucker and family in Baldwinville, NY. Persistently angry toward grandson John Allan Weeks, 24, who she perceives is cold and self-centered: [5 June] "JA came home around 7:30 in the front door, didn't speak, went upstairs and I asked him if he didn't want supper and he said he didn't and I said what's the matter, aren't we good enough, or something like that I was so mad. Hasn't had a supper here this week. Wished I could go somewhere but don't feel able to get ready." [7 June] "JA out with Michael in pm but came home for supper-- wanted franks so I fixed 3 with rolls. He could have mowed lawn but didn't and it's getting long again." [13 August] "JA home a little early, went upstairs for a sleep and after we had our supper came down to his 'regular.' Surly as usual. Went out and mowed part of back lawn but quit before he had done much. The gas gave out." Great-grandson Steven Gerard Yarnot, son of granddaughter Anna Jane "Janna" (Edmands) Hawes Yarnot and her husband, Richard James Yarnot, born (as part of Generation X) in Lakenheath, Suffolk Shire, England, UK. Friend Ethel Howell died in Holly Hills, FL, at the age of 80; friend (had been nemesis at Andover Press in the 1930s and 40s) Louis Paine died. 1969
Died in Methuen, Essex County, Massachusetts, at the age of 82 years 11 months and 19 days in Clover Hill Hospital, Methuen, Essex County, Massachusetts, from pneumonia and heart failure as a complication of acute diabetes. Buried in Spring Grove Cemetery, Andover. Granddaughter Marguerite Phyllis "Margot" Edmands, 24, daughter of son Ernest John Edmands and daughter-in-law Marguerite Phyllis "Peggy" Bailey Edmands, married Hardy Cannon "Peter" Grier, Jr., in Virginia Beach, Norfolk County, Virginia. 1970
