John Crosby II

The Yorkshire village of Stillingfleet is about five miles due south of the city of York. This John Crosby of Stillingfleet, our ancestor, we are designating as "the Second." There are no records available of the name of John Crosby II's wife, her birth, her death, or the date of the marriage. There is no copy of John's will nor the probate of a will.

It is very probable, though not apparent from the article of genealogist Paul W. Prindle, that sometime during his life, John moved about ten miles eastward to Holme upon Spaulding Moor. Three of John's son's are listed on the 1528 rental list as residing in Holme upon Spaulding Moor: Alan, James, and our ancestor, Thomas. Prindle did note that he had only a "brief time available" for his research, so it is possible that the Bartlett Collection has more information.

John was part of the adaptive Humanist Generation. His father was part of the heroic, civic-minded Arthurian Generation. His children were part of the idealistic Reformation Generation.
